About

An independent guide, on your side of the table.

Claims Guide exists for one reason: homeowners shouldn't need a law degree or an adjuster's license to get a fair outcome on an insurance claim.

What this site is

Why does this site exist? Because homeowners shouldn’t need a law degree to get a fair claim outcome — and most guides are written by the industry, for the industry.

Claims Guide is a plain-English resource for homeowners navigating property insurance claims — filing, adjuster visits, estimates, denials, supplements, and disputes. Every guide answers one real question, the kind people actually type into a search box at midnight, with the answer first and the depth after.

The site stands with homeowners and honest contractors. Underpaid claims hurt both: the homeowner gets shortchanged and the contractor doesn't get paid fairly for the work. Your contractor generally can't argue coverage on your behalf — so this is the voice they aren't allowed to use.

Who writes it

Will Tygart is the founder of Tygart Media, an AI-first agency serving restoration contractors. He spends his working life inside the insurance-claim process — which is exactly why he knows how opaque it looks from the homeowner's side. He's not a lawyer, not an adjuster, and not selling anything here. He's the translator.

How it's kept honest

  • No insurer talking points. Nothing here is reviewed or approved by any insurance company.
  • No sales pitch. There is nothing for sale on this site.
  • Reviewed regularly. Every page carries a last-reviewed date. Insurance rules change; when they do, the guides get updated.
  • Corrections welcome. If something's wrong or out of date, it gets fixed — visibly.

The fine print

Informational only — not legal or insurance advice.

Insurance rules vary by state and by policy. Check your own policy documents and your state's insurance department, or talk to a licensed professional, before acting on a claim. Nothing on this site creates an attorney-client or adjuster-client relationship.
